  
The DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm is designed to be installed in a ceiling mounted light socket or track lights without lamp shades. It is not recommended to install the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm in wall mounted lights, table lamps, standard lamps or any other lighting fixtures.
How does the self-charging feature work?
The DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm has an internal self-charging power pack that is recharged electrically. In order to keep your DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm fully charged it requires the light socket it is installed in be switched on for at least 2 hours total per week.
If I lose elecrical power—will my alarm still work?
The DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm has an internal self charging power pack. This power pack recharges when the light socket the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm is installed in is switched on. This power pack allows your alarm to work even when the electrical power is off. With a fully charged power pack, the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm is designed to operate for 30 days.
How often do I have to recharge my alarm and how do I do that?
The DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm internal power pack is recharged electrically. This is done by turning on the light socket in which you have installed the alarm. We recommend that the light socket in which the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm is installed to be switched on for a total of 2 hours per week to assure that the internal power pack in the alarm remains fully charged. However, every time the light socket is turned on, the power pack is being recharged.
My garage/basement/laundry area is kept at a low temperature-- will the DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm still work?
The DuPont™ Self-Charging Smoke Alarm has UL certification for use in areas where temperature may regularly drop to 5°F unlike most smoke alarms which are normally tested and are specified to work at temperatures above 40°F.
